Due to the efforts of our “Knitting Angels,” a hand-knit item completes each layette bundle we provide to newborns and their families at Overlook and Morristown hospitals. These dedicated “angels” come from as far as Virginia and even Germany, and give us beautiful sweaters, hats, mittens, and blankets that they have knit with love and care for the children we serve.
“Tiny Toppers” are the adorable knitted hats that we make and add to our layettes as a personal, handmade touch. We gather periodically at members homes to knit (and chat!) as a group. Supplies are provided or can be purchased at Wool and Grace on Summit Avenue in Summit. These events are intimate and well-attended by women at all levels of knitting experience — from newbies to experts. If you are interested in helping as a knitting angel, please contact Cynthia Tarantino at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. No knitting experience necessary... we will teach you! See our volunteer page to sign up.
In the fall of 2015, we began providing bundles of our “tiny toppers” along with a signature handmade fleece blanket to Birth Haven—Shelter and Hope for Young Mothers in Newton, NJ to help those mothers in need. Birth Haven provides shelter, support and education for homeless, pregnant women and girls so they can carry their pregnancy to term.
We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of Patty Perry, owner of Wool and Grace knitting supply store on Summit Ave. in Summit, who has been so willing to open the store for our members and to provide knitting expertise as needed.
